Australia v West Indies First Test Report Card, Day Three
Featuring flirting with innings defeats and knocking off
Flirting With Innings Defeats
Resuming on the third morning, the West Indies flirted with an innings defeat, playfully teasing it with entendre-ridden emojis, open body language and Indecent Proposal-style cash offers.
Things escalated to the stage where the West Indies were nine wickets down and still one run short of making Australia bat again, before the prudish Shamar Joseph strode to the crease and sprayed the hose over his teammates.
He began by driving Josh Hazlewood for four from his first delivery, before adding 26 for the final wicket alongside Kemar Roach. So much fun was Joseph having, playing up to the delighted crowd, that it felt almost improper to dismiss him.
Of course, that didn’t stop Nathan Lyon, the man with the darkest soul of all, who had him stumped from the second ball he bowled.
