South Africa batted first, sent in by megalomaniacal madman Mitch Marsh, under the fool impression that he could prevent Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock from adding 146 for the first wicket in 22.5 overs.
Where he got that idea, nobody knows, although the new ball spells from Josh Hazlewood and Marcus Stoinis did keep the openers briefly under control. Indeed, after the seventh over, the South Africa ‘Manhattan’ featured twin towers in the fifth and seventh overs standing proudly above the low-rise, three runs per over cityscape that surrounded them. A beautiful 9/11 tribute. #neverforget
